yesterday ethan drew me a map. its just a simple A4 sized paper with lots of lines that lead to nowhere. after he gave it to me he insisted i use his map and even taught me how to use it. naturally i entertained him. in the end, he insisted i keep the map because it was drawn for me. i told him okay and left it on the table saying i'd take it later.
before i left grandma's hse he ran out and asked me if i remembered to take my map. i obliged since it meant so much to him.
"you must bring back home and keep it okay jerome kor kor"
realised i left my bag behind and went back to fetch it. ethan came again and immediately questioned me about my map. i showed it to him and he smiled. "bye-bye"
the thing is, when i took the lift down i had half a heart to throw the paper away but decided against it.
the lesson i learnt:
the value of a paper is just 3 cents.
the value of this paper to remake is just 5 cents. (photocopy)
the value of this paper to ethan is priceless.
the value of his trust in me is priceless.
the price of something is not measured by its material worth. it is measured by its importance to us and the effects it brings to a person.
a pair of versace glasses may be worthless to the blind.
a simple "good night" sms may cost 5 cents but the happy sleep the receiver gets is priceless.
its the small things in life that make it worth living. it was a reminder to me.
and yes, i shall keep my map.
