The killers were outside my room this morning, speaking loud enough to jostle me from my dreamland. When I had first awoke, I had not known the voices to belong to killers. I grabbed my tooth brush and tooth paste and headed to the toilet, greeting one of the killers a good morning.
When I came back, the deed was already done. The killers had already packed up and left.
It was a complete annihilation of the colony. The same colony that existed since I first moved in to hall. They had lived on the roof of a passageway that lead to another hall. It was just a small part of the roof that they chose to built their haven. The red brick floor below their nest was scattered with corpses of the dead ants. There were hundreds. It was a sad sight. The ants had not brought the wrath upon themselves, and neither had I. It was all the doings of the evil hall administrators.
I have always known red ants to be fearsome fighters, being on the receiving end of several of their jaws when i mistakenly stepped into their nest years ago. They kind of reminded me of soldiers. Many of them had wandered into my room before but I never squashed any of them but instead took the liberty of throwing them back outside. The night before the massacre I had just set another lost ant back to his colony. It was ironic, I "saved" a life only to have its entire family of hundreds wiped out the next morning.
Ironies of life, some things are just beyond control. Its like falling for a person who will never love you.
