notes

The sun was blazing and I had agreed to undertake the tedious job of getting surveys from strangers on the most bustling street in Singapore, Orchard Road. A good friend of mine needed some people to help him out with it and the pay wasn't half bad.

Basically, I carried a big box of healthy snack bars around while my partner tries to solicitate surveys from random individuals spending their weekend walking in town. Their reward was a free snack bar and a voucher if they wanted to sign a new plan with the telco we were working for.

After hours of people turning us down, without cloud shading us from the sultry heat, we decided we deserved a break. While walking to put our stuff down at the main exhibition site, I saw another guy trying to get surveys from people as well. He was wearing some Domino Pizza uniform. Since the snack bars are never accounted for, I could give them away as much as I pleased and no one would care. I figured that guy probably needed a break as well so I handed him a snack bar.

"Dude, have it on me, they're free anyway."

Someone had approached him for a survey and I didn't complain when he brushed me off and entertained his new survey volunteer.

We went for our break and then decided to try for more surveys later. Hours later, we were one short of completion and everyone seemed too preoccupied with their dinner location decision than to give us any of their precious time.

This random guy approached me with his girlfriend and said that they'd be happy to do our survey. I was like: woah, that's some luck right there. One final one and we can call it a day!

After finishing the 10 minute or so survey, I reached my hand into the box to pull out their "rewards". The guy looked at me for awhile.

"Hey, are you the guy that handed me the snack bar in the afternoon? You are!! Thanks man, I was starving!!"

Karma. Is. Real.
